I have two favorite artists: The first, Leonardo Da Vinci. The second and equally favored is Georgia O’Keeffe. See her HUGE collection of works HERE

Over the years there have been many Workshops that I would have liked to attend .. But my desire was but a mere fleeting wish compared to the feelings that are arising now after reading about John Paul’s ‘Spirits of the Wind’ Vision Quest & Integrative Photography.

John Paul mentors individual photographers, gives lectures and conducts photographic excursions to remote places around the world. And his next such pilgrimage is to the Sanctuary of Georgia O’Keeffe, the now famous Ghost Ranch.  Ghost Ranch is a 21,000 acre retreat and education center located close to the village of Abiquiu in Rio Arriba County, New Mexico.

There is only space for 12 people to join the six day and night Vision Quest AND I want to be one of them.

To participate in this Vision Quest would be a pivotal point in my own creative development, giving me the ‘permission’ to step freely into a totally new and unfamiliar world. That in itself would ensure a greater connection between the land/space/magic and My Creative Muse .. Releasing new inspiration to create. Releasing new insight to inspire Your Creative Muse.

I don’t know the ‘hows’ .. All I know is that I want with EVERY cell of my being to be one of the 12 creatives on John Paul’s Vision Quest at Georgia O’Keeffe’s Sanctuary, The Ghost Ranch at Abiquiu, New Mexico on  August 28 – September 3, 2010.  

Where it may seem impossible right now, I’m going to dust down every affirmation trick in the book and implore Heaven and Earth to get me there.

So I’m writing this now as my affirmation that I WILL be there. That Spirit wants me to be there and so will open the way for me to be there. If you are reading this now, please support my intention with your best wishes.

In his music video for ‘Superman Tonight” on the CD ‘The Circle’ Jon Bon Jovi introduced a variety of ‘Angels On Earth.’

These featured ‘Heroes’ all had one thing in common: A total selflessness and dedication to caring for the wellbeing of others. Then after introducing a selection of his heroes, Bon Jovi in collaboration with Animoto held a contest to let everyone tell the world about the ‘Heroes’ that have touched their lives, as well as the lives of others.

Clips from the ‘Superman Tonight’ video were to be used along with a section of the song. Participants were then free then to add their own images and text to tell the story of their Hero.

The contest was only available to residents of the US to enter and officially closed on March 21, 2010 * But nevertheless I was inspired to make this short video featuring Jim Humble, the inventor and formulator of Miracle Mineral Solutions as ‘Hero of Planet Earth.’

 

 

Reflecting on both the lyrics of Bon Jovi’s song ‘Superman Tonight’ and the inspired philosophy of Jim Humble at http://budurl.com/JHworldpeace the words came and the images evolved.

Jim and his trainees successfully treated over 75,000 people afflicted with malaria, over a five year period in the heart of Africa, by the administration of Miracle Mineral Solutions * Known simply as MMS.

Since then MMS has been used by people all around the world, with more than a million people in the US alone have benefited from its use.

While Miracle Mineral Solutions isn’t a beautiful snowflake as these images may suggest, I feature snowflakes as uniquely structured water ‘gems’ to symbolize ‘miracles’ in the making.

Today * January 18, 2010 * Martin Luther King Day Jr. is being celebrated.

A massive non-violent march down the Washington Mall to the steps of the Lincoln Memorial on August 28, 1963 culminated with Martin Luther King Jr. delivering his legendary speech ‘I have a dream.’  

Martin Luther King’s deeply moving speech mobilized supporters of desegregation and prompted the 1964 Civil Rights Act. The following year Martin Luther King was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize.

As we re-look at all that Martin Luther King Jr. stood for when reading of his ‘dreams’ for his nation and people * What a wonderful time to reflect on our own goals and willingness to live by our own ‘dreams.’

A birthday to remember * Going to the premiere of ‘Mao’s Last Dancer’ at the Dendy Newtown, Sydney with my friend Sylvia, after she requested and received free tickets from ABC Radio.

‘Mao’s Last Dancer’ directed by Bruce Beresford and produced by Jane Scott for Hopscotch Films, was based on the book of the same name by Li Cunxin, relating his extraordinary true life’s story.

As a small boy, Li was plucked from his poverty stricken village school in Shandong Province in China, to train as a dancer in Beijing.

Belittled because of his lack of strength, Li seized his incredible opportunity and WORKED with everything he had, determined to succeed. So that ultimately he became a highly praised dancer in both the east and the west.

Li’s Autobiography ‘Mao’s Last Dancer’ hit the top of Australia’s best seller’s book list immediately it was published. The book became number 1 in the non-fiction category and won the Book of the Year Award in Australia, the Christopher Award in America. Now in its 32nd printing and published and sold in over 20 countries, the book has been made into a stunning feature film.

A unique story of determination, passion, integrity and love, Li’s journey is filled with dreams shattered and revitalized. This combined with the moving supporting ballet sequences and still photographs create an experience to be cherished.

And now: After being acclaimed as one of the best dancers in the world and dancing with the Houston Ballet for sixteen years, Li fell in love with and married Mary McKendry, an Australian born ballerina. In 1995 the couple moved to Melbourne with their two children.  

At age thirty-four, Li started to plan a new career and enrolled in accounting and financial courses. He then began his study at the Australian Securities Institute by correspondence with a view to becoming a stockbroker.

For his final two years as a principal dancer with the Australian Ballet, he rose at 5 am to start ballet training, then racing to the stock exchange by 8 am to work as a stockbroker until noon. By the time he joined the rest of the Australian Ballet dancers for rehearsals, he had already put in a full day’s work.

Li is now a senior manager at one of the biggest stock broking firms in Australia. And as a motivational and inspirational speaker, Li’s unique real life story works so effectively with corporations and conferences’ various themes and objectives. It is a story that can truly touch people deep in their hearts.

For me: As an artist/sometimes art teacher, I have always believed that we all have an innate ‘natural creative talent’ that if given credence, then nurtured and developed, can in due course  manifest in unique and meaningful art work.

And so I found the extra, extraordinary measures that Li took to develop ‘lightness’ in order to make those spectacular leaps that he became famous for, absolutely inspirational.

Li always danced for his parents: In the belief that he could never hope to return to China or see his family again. And so perhaps the most moving sequence in the film was towards the end when the ‘VIPS’ arrived to see their sixth son dance for the first time.

Which leaves me with the feeling that as we WORK to develop our personal CREATIVITY we will eventually acquire ‘something more’ than our latent natural talent may have produced * That  will be truly appreciated by others and for many will be their catalyst of inspiration.

Towed by a ski boat to the top of a 70-foot wave * Californian, Mike Parsons then rode it to completion.

‘Billabong Odyssey’ has been described as being the most ambitious surf film ever undertaken. Filmed over the course of two years, the film explores the adventures of a team of surfers on their quest to find and surf the biggest wave on the planet.

The film tracks expeditions to a variety of exotic locations all around the world, including Mavericks in Northern California, Todos Santos Island in Mexico; Cortes Bank in the Pacific, the outer shoals of the Hawaiian Isles of Oahu and Maui; Tahiti; and reefs in Australia, France and Spain.

The first preview I saw of this film, ended with Mike Parsons disappearing beneath a mammoth bed of foam filling the entire screen. And the big question for me was whether Mike survived what must have been a ride of a life-time.

Fortunately Mike did come out of the wave alive as this particular preview now shows.

So that the next question is ‘What does it take to risk one’s life for one’s passion?’ Without speaking to Mike I’d say ‘Certainty’ * ‘Certainty’ that he had acquired all the skills and had the emotional and mental as well as physical strength to DO IT.
